The Power of Healing with Reiki

As we enter the New Year and new decade, we often seek a fresh start or a New Year’s resolution. A great way to create a clean slate for the New Year is to get rid of old, stuck energy. The body is full of energy, and often this energy can become blocked. Some reasons for blocked energy may be due to trauma, suppressed emotions, and stress on the body. The energy blockages can manifest as physical pain, anxiety, and depression. Reiki is a form of energy healing that can clear such blockages and heal the body and mind.

Reiki started in Japan many years ago. The core belief of Reiki is that the energy of the body should be free-flowing and strong. Its view is similar to acupuncture or acupressure. When the energy is free-flowing, it is believed that the mind and the body are at their healthiest state. When energy becomes blocked, physical and emotional imbalances can manifest. Reiki is great for physical, mental, and emotional health and is a great compliment to talk therapy, which can only take you so far. 

What happens during a reiki session?

During a reiki session, your practitioner will have you lay on a massage table. The session is performed entirely clothed, with shoes off. You will want to be as comfortable as possible. Blankets and pillows are provided. Soft, relaxing music may be playing in the background. All practitioners have a unique way of facilitating their sessions. Some practitioners may burn sage around you, use crystals/stones, or have you say a mantra out loud. Your practitioner will proceed to place her hands over your body. She will either use a light touch or hover her hands over your body. If you prefer no-touch, make sure to communicate it to your practitioner. The idea is that the energy flows through the practitioner, out her hands, and into the person’s body. Different areas of the body may be focused on more due to where the energy is blocked. 

What can I expect during a session of Reiki?

Sessions can last anywhere from 20 to 90 minutes, depending on what your body needs. During a reiki session, you will feel a sense of deep relaxation. Some people even fall asleep, which is completely okay because you will still reap the benefits.

What is Reiki good for?

Reiki is great for healing many ailments, including:

  • Anxiety

  • Depression

  • Physical pain

  • Trauma

  • Fear

  • Aids in speeding up healing when combined with other modalities.

Talk therapy can only take you so far, and Reiki is a great addition to healing. At Intuitive Healing, we can combine traditional talk therapy and energy healing in working with clients in our integrated sessions.
